Create run shortcut for your Favorite File

When you need your favorite file to open what do you do? Usually you go to that directory and then open that file. After a certain period of time you get bored of this and ask yourself isn’t there any way to open my most favorite file easily? My answer will be yes.

Here today I will introduce a way through which you will be able to open your favorite file just writing its name in the run command. You just have to follow some easy steps before you are done.

Step 1:

Go to run command (Shortcut: windows key+R). Type regedit in and press enter. Registry editor will spawn up. In the registry editor window you will see a sidebar. On the side bar there will be a drop down folder named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Expand that folder.

Step one

Step 2:

After Expanding the folder there you will see a folder named Software. Expand that folder.

Step two

Step 3:

On that folder find the folder named Microsoft. Expand that folder.

Step 3

Step 4:

Expand the Microsoft folder. There you will find the folder named Windows. Expand that folder.

Step 4

Step 5:

After Expanding that folder look for the folder named App Paths. After finding that folder expand the folder.

Step five

Step 6:

Right Click on the App path Folder. From the Menu select New and From New select Key.

Step 7:

After Selecting key a new path folder will be created.

Step seven

Stpe 8:

Name the folder according to the file name for which you want to create the Shortcut. For example, here I have used flvplayer.exe as i am going to create a shortcut for that file. Note that you have to provide the file extension in the folder name. After naming the folder press enter.

Step eight

Step 9:

On the Right bar of the registry editor you will find a field named (default). Double click on the field a window will come up. On that window there will be field named value data type/paste the file path (Example: D:Folderfile.exe). Note that file name is not case sensitive but the path is case sensitive. Like in D:Folderfile.exe D:Folder is case sensitive but file.exe is not case sensitive. Then choose OK.

Step nine

Step 10:

Right click on the white space of the screen. From the menu select New. from New select String Value. When you have selected string value a new field will be created.

HURRAY!!!! You are done!!! Now no time waste just type the name of the file and see it running is the twinkling of an eye!!!

Note:

  1. Registry editor can be risky. Edit your registry at your own risk.
  2. This shortcut is applicable for any file type e.g mp3, mp4, avi, exe, mpeg etc.
